KADAVAR – Intervista al cantante e chitarrista Christoph “Lupus” Lindema …

kadavar1 orig

Ciao Marco! Grazie!

In italiano? “Cadavere”

Grazie a te Marco! Ciao!

** ENGLISH VERSION **

Hi Christoph, welcome to the pages of Tuttorock, first of all congratulations for your new album “For The Dead Travel Fast” which will be released on October 11th, why this title?
Hi Marco, thank you! It is a phrase mentioned in the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker and in an old German poem, the gothic ballad Lenore, by the German poet August Bürger, we liked it.

And why did you choose a band name that evokes names of black metal or death metal bands?
We wanted a name that would go well in every language, that was remembered by everyone, for example, as you say “Kadavar” in Italian?

In Italian I say it “Cadavere”
See, it’s simple, everyone can understand it, it sounds like something of evil and everyone can remember it!

Can you tell me something about the realization and the recording of this album?
We recorded the album in our studio in Berlin, a studio we built about two years ago. We recorded everything in analogical mode, playing all at the same time, I think this gives a warmer sound, almost like you’re listening to us live.

You made 5 albums in 7 years, so you always have lots of musical ideas!
It might seem that way but in the 70s you would have said: “only 5 albums in 7 years?”. I’m very proud to have made all these albums in such a short time.

You have been affiliated with names like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, are they the ones who most inspired you or are there other bands?
I think the two bands you mentioned inspired all the bands of today that play hard rock or metal, but a band like MC5 is more important for us. I prefer heavier bands, such as the Who. I love crazy artists, especially those of the early 70s. I also love Iggy Pop.

You seem to come out of the 70s, when the records were bought, how do you live these years when too many people download music from the internet?
I myself use streaming a lot but not the downloading, I think it’s a good thing for the bands because they can make themselves known all over the world. There is no need to buy records, everyone can access your music all over the world so if they like you they will come to see your concerts. But I also like having a booklet or a record in my hands, on tour I listen to Spotify but at home I prefer to play a record.

You come from Berlin, how is the hard rock scene in that city and in Germany in general?
In Berlin, as in the whole of Germany, we have many interesting bands, there are many places to play, almost one every 200 km and here you can play longer than in the United States for example where 1 hour is enough, here you can play for 90 or 100 minutes, it’s a good thing.

What do you expect from this album?
Nothing (he laughs – Editor’s Note), I never have much expectations after an album, I just hope I made a good album and I’ll take all the things that will come with pleasure.

Unfortunately, the tour does not have a date in Italy, but you have been here a few times, do you have good memories of my country?
It is not easy to come and play there, we have scheduled the tour in the summer and we could not find an available date. Unfortunately there are some organizational problems in Italy. But I have great memories of your country, we came on holiday in Sardinia, in many things you are well organized!

Thank you very much for this interview, do you want to say something to the Tuttorock webzine readers?
Thanks Marco. I want to tell you that we would really like to come back and play for the Italian guys, we will work hard to do it. Bye!
