JP ‘Thunderbolt’ PATTERSON – Intervista al batterista dei Dictators NYC

ENGLISH VERSION:

Hi JP, how are you? You’re about to leave on tour. What did you like most from it?
Doing great, packing and getting ready for Spain/Portugal/France.  Skipped Spain last year and I haven’t been to Portugal in years, so we are looking forward to it.  Spain has been fantastic to the band for 20 years.  Great time of year to tour the Iberian peninsula!

When did you start playing the drums? And why did you choose this instrument?
I started at age 4…the drums kind of chose me.  I would beat on everything in the house with knitting needles.  Got my first drum kit just before my fifth birthday.

Because your name Thunderbolt? Where does?
My grandfather was an All-American wrestler and football player named Jake “Thunderbolt” Patterson and he passed it on to me.  Then there’s the thunderous-ness of my playing…

How has the music world changed since you started?
You can’t sell records anymore.  The working class rock musician has all but disappeared in this country.  I’ve been lucky to have had Europe to tour for years.

What were the musicians who mainly inspired you for your career?
Keith Moon, Cozy Powell, Topper Headon, Clem Burke, Al Jackson Jr., Rob Hirst.

In your opinion, what’s the importance of the social network in the music?
At this point in time, it is the most important promotional tool.  You can connect directly with your audience. And through their pictures and videos and comments, the fans become part of every show.

What are you planning for the next year? And what can we wait from JP in the future?
I think we come back for a tour of Northern Europe in the fall.  Let’s hope so!

Thanks a lot for the time dedicated!
Thanks to you Monica!
